How to best store dairy products

Milk and dairy products should be kept in a cool place and away from light. In other words, chilled products such as fresh milk, yoghurt, fromage blanc, buttermilk and crème fraîche should be placed directly in the refrigerator after they have been purchased. UHT milk must be placed in the refrigerator once it has been opened. It’s important to keep milk away from light, as this may spoil its taste. If milk is contained in a glass bottle, the glass should preferably be dark in colour. Since dairy products rapidly absorb the smell of other foods, you should ensure that they are always firmly sealed.

Fermented milk products, such as yoghurt, buttermilk or kefir, can still be consumed even several days after their use-by date, provided they have been kept in the fridge and show no signs of mould, and provided their taste hasn’t changed. You should check this by their appearance, smell and taste!
